City in a day: Prague
Prague is very colorful and beautiful city. It has happiness which it will share with you. Although walking in uncomfortable shoes is not a good idea here, because of cobble streets and pavements.
The Powder Tower(Prašná brána)
Powder Tower is one of the original city gates of the Prague city. It is a Gothic style architecture and the design is inspired by the Charles Bridge. The gate was used to store gunpowder, that’s how it’s name is ‘Powder Tower’.
Old Town Square
Old town square is one of the center of the city. The square is in the historic old city area, near Charles Bridge. This area is always lively, with beautiful buildings around it. Restaurants and cafes are often filled with tourists.
There are many important landmarks nearby, likes of astronomical clock, beautiful towers of Church of Our Lady before Týn, St. Nicholas’ Church, Madame Tussauds and many more.
Charles Bridge
Charles Bridge is an iconic landmark, it’s a pedestrian stone bridge crossing the river Vltava and joining Prague’s old town with the new town. There are people always on the bridge, taking pictures and enjoying views also many artist making sketches, paintings and selling souvenirs.
Prague Castle and St Vitus Cathedral
Prague castle complex lies oh the hill overlooking the city, its one of the biggest castle complex. The castle is the office of the president of Czech Republic. Cathedral of Saints Vitus is in the castle complex. it’s Gothic architecture work will catch your eyes. Castle complex is one of the first things to see for most tourists. you can easily spend half a day if going into museums and details.
Petrin Hill
Across the river on the east and south of The Prague Castle, Petrin Hill can easily be spotted. There is a tower on the top which somehow resembles Eiffel Tower. You can take funicular to get to the top of the hill for stunning views of Prague city. There are many parks and recreational spots around it.
Dancing House
Dancing House is one of the most famous building in Prague. unlike historical, it is an example of modern architecture. Frank Gehry is credited for this masterpiece on the riverfront. If you like to walk, then walk for around 1 km south from the Charles Bridge, along with the river to find it.
Wenceslas Square
The Wenceslas Square is of the important city square in the new city of Prague. There are many hotels and commercial activities around it. National museum is on the one end of the street. The square is accessible from metro, tram and buses.
There are many other spots in Prague. But don’t forget to try local cuisine, sweets and famous Czech beers also.
