Lake Como

Lake Como is one-hour train ride from Milan. Train runs everyday from morning to evening almost every hour. Check Trenord website for more information. Como is a small city; Lake Como is just next to the Como Lago railway station. City center has wonderful Como cathedral and many restaurants around narrow streets. But Como lies on the foothills of Alps and there is a funicular going up to the hilltop village of Brunate. It gives spectacular views from top.

Venice

There are many buses and trains going to Venice every morning and coming back in the late evening. If you reach Mestre in Venice, take a 15 min train to Santa Lucia station in the Island of Venice. Water bus stop is just outside of the station. Or if you decide to walk its good to have a map of any kind to not getting lost in the small streets. Rialto bridge and Piazza San Marco not too far. Although going to Murano will be hectic.

Florence

Trains and Buses runs to Florence every day many times. Bus takes around 3-4 hours and fast train takes less than 2 hours. It’s possible to walk everywhere Florence because all the main attractions are in and around city center. Piazza Michelangelo, Ponte Vecchio and Duomo Cathedral are the main attractions. Mantua

One is upper city or Citta Alta, which is walled city on hill and could be reached by bus or funicular. The other part of Bergamo is “Città Bassa” or Lower city, it’s a new modern city.

Lugano

Lugano is city in Switzerland. It is a good option for a day trip in the Alpine city. Although its nearby Italy, and has Italian influence in language, culture and cuisine in swiss flavors. Lugano lies on the edge of Lake Lugano. Trains and buses run from Milan. but only few trains are direct. In other cases, you have to change at the border town of Chiasso.

Verona

Verona is another city for a day trip. It is around 2 hours from Milan. fast trains are also run here from Milan. There are many places to see in Verona. This city also is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Juliet’s house is one of the main attractions here.
