One of the ancient city in Basilicata province of southern Italy. Matera is marked as UNESCO world heritage site. it’s one of its kind in and around the Mediterranean region. Matera is far from major cities in the south Italian Apennines mountains and still underrated Italian destination. Matera was European cultural capital for 2019

Are you planning to visit Matera? The nearest airport is in Bari, there is narrow gauge line and bus connections.

Bari Airport
65 km NE, This is the closest airport from Matera. Train: 5€ to Bari, 4.9€ from Bari to Matera centrale(terminal). Bus: no. 16 from airport to Bari 1€ and then Bus to Matera 4.9€ to and Flixbus 5€ from Bari. Taxi: 80-100€.

Matera Centrale
Terminal station of Matera city. Narrow gauge trains from/to Bari runs almost every hour from 4:45 am to 9:30 pm. Run by Ferrovie Appulo Lucane costs 4.9 € and takes 1:40 hrs to reach. Find more, book online tickets here.

Public Transport
Public transport in Matera is consists of buses run by Miccolis. It is not a very big city, so people generally walk but younger and older people take buses.
