Project Tiger in India is an initiative to protect and control the environment around and for Tigers, it started in 1973 to save the declining population of this endangered species. With 9 protected areas as in wildlife sanctuary and national parks in 1973-74 to 53 as of 2022.
India has about 70-80% of Tiger population in the world. it has grown significantly from 2006, when number was down to only about 1411 and now about 3000 wild Tigers are roaming in these protected areas. Lets find out some of the best places, where to see Tigers in India and to experience this marvelous creature in the wild.
Jim Corbett National Park
Tigers in Park : 216
Park is in foothills of Himalaya in Uttarakhand State of India. with total area of 822 sq. kilometers of core area. Along with tigers, Corbett is also home to more than 110 verities of flora and and about 40 species of Fauna. Park is also a perfect getaway destination from Delhi, its about 5 hours drive or train to Haldwani or Ramnagar, or take a flight to Pantnagar (about 80km).
Best time to visit : from April to June, winters are nice as well but can get foggy, avoid monsoon from July to September.

Ranthambore National Park
Tigers in Park : 37
A popular tourist destination as well as one of the best places for tigers siting in India. Its close proximity from Delhi, Jaipur and Agra also gives advantage to the park. Core area of the park is about 1113 square kilometers.
Best time to visit : October to March, but April-June is the best time for tigers spotting.

Bandhavgarh National Park
Tigers in Park : 63
Bandhavgarh National Park is in Madhya Pradesh, Its Terrain has hills and plains with many verities flora and fauna. Although there are not too many tigers here, but the park is popular for its sightings. Core area is about 452 sq-km. nearest airport connecting is in Jabalpur, from where it takes about 4 hrs. drive to the park.
Best time to visit : October to March, April to June is best for catch tiger photographs.

Kanha Tiger Reserve
Tigers in Park : 80
with core area of 917 kilometers square, it is also one of the starting parks with project tiger, Kanha is also populer from Jungle book story of Mowgli by Rudyard Kipling.
Best time to visit : October to April, but again best time to see tigers are in summer months April to June.

Sariska Tiger Reserve
Tigers in Park : 10
With close proximity to Delhi and Jaipur, it is a popular travel destinations. Along the Aravalli hills with core area of about 880 square kilometers, it has been very well monitoring day and night.
Best time to visit : Park is open from October to May, best time to spot tigers in summers.

Pench National Park
Tigers in Park : 43
Pench Netional Park is another tiger reserve in Madhya Pradesh but spreading over to Maharashtra. It has 1180 sq.km area with 411 sq.km of core tiger reserve and has good ratio of tigers.
Best time to visit : November to April, winters are best time to visit but its good to visit in summers to get maximum chances of spotting tigers. Avoid monsoon, park is closed during this time.

Sundarban National Park

The famous Sundarbans delta, also has tiger reserve in its territory, national park is spreading over many islands of the delta region. With core area of about 1700 square kilometers, its not that easy to spot tigers hiding in the mangrove forests on the islands of the delta region. Overall it covers area of about 2590 sq.km. travellers can reach here from Kolkata via car and boat ride.
Best time to visit : winters, from November to March, summers are too hot and monsoon gets messy and dificult to ride a boat.

Tadoba Andhari National Park
Tigers in Park : 115
Tadoba Andhari National park is in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra. Which can be reached by 3-4 hrs drive from Nagpur. Park has grown its tiger population and also became one of the best places to watch tigers. Total core area is about 625 sq.km.
Best time to visit : winters and spring, till early summers. monsoon has limits of areas. March to may are best to watch tigers.

Kaziranga National Park
Tigers in Park : 103
Kaziranga is popular for its one horned rhinos, but it also has tiger saving program, The park is in Assam and spreading its project tiger core area over Brahmaputra river floodplains surrounded by hills. Landscape of Kaziranga Assam also contribute in many verities of flora and fauna.
Best time to visit : November to April, park remains closed from May to October because of heavy rains and flood warnings.
